This is mine – My Maggie.  She has a guitar that she loves.  Nana bought the guitar – a sweet little pink number that doesn’t ever stay in tune.  She loves it though, and to her, she is a rock star.  She wrote a song this morning, like she does about once a week.  Once, when we were playing ‘American Idol’ (she was the contestants), she made up her audition songs on the spot…and did so for 40 minutes.  She made up about 20 songs – it was truly hilarious.  Here is todays song.

once upon a time

in a little wood house

a sweetie baby and cutie pie

and they were very beautiful

they lived in a little nest

and they were really pretty

they flapped all around

they flapped all around all day

they ate all day

all day

they jumped all day

they played all day

and they met a cat

that was really mean

so they were scared

and they flew away

and they were really scared

and they went back to their

far away nest

One day she’ll fill stadiums, but for now she’s content to just rock out on her little pink guitar.

So for a while, I’ve been participating in a Picture A Day challenge. I’ve done this before in the past, and have always lost steam. This time, I’ve done better….not great, but still trying! It’s a fun way to keep yourself taking pictures, and I encourage everyone to do this…take one picture a day, for a whole year. You’ll be amazed at what you may capture. Make it silly, make it serious, whatever. Take a picture of something relevant to you, be it your morning coffee cup, or the first tulip peeking it’s way out of your yard, or your kid with chocolate all over it’s face. Just take a picture a day, and see how your life will reveal itself right in front of your eyes.

Today’s pic….what keeps me going each day, my daughter Maggie, with a messy peanut butter face, and taking a minute away from watching the Wiggles to humor me with a smile. I just love her.

broken

March 20, 2008

The last few days have been a little crazy. Maggie fell while playing on Monday, and broke her front teeth. Again. Thanksgiving 2006, she fell and chipped her front teeth and had to have them capped. On Monday, she did more than chipped them. They are shoved up into her gums, and broken. We went to the pediatric dentist, and they can’t really do anything for them for 5 weeks or so, to wait until the swelling goes down, and to see if they will spontaneously move back down. If they do, great! Then they will be able to restore them again. If they don’t….well, they will have to pull them. The hardest part? She can’t suck her thumb. Anyone that knows Maggie knows that she’s a thumbsucker. wasn’t even going to really attempt to get her to stop for at least another 6 months. And now she has to abruptly stop.

It makes me sad because she had this traumatic event, and I feel like a meanie for telling her she can’t do the thing she finds the most soothing. :(
